Alexander Barr, a Scot transplanted to North Ireland before 1800. Emigrated from
N. Ireland to Dauphin Co., PA where he married Mary Margaret McElheny in 1803.
By 1807 he was on the Tax Lists of Indiana Co., PA and resided in Laurel Hill,
Indiana Co., PA for several years. This was close to his brother, Samuel Barr &
wife, Margaret Patterson, who resided in W. Wheatfield Twp., Indiana Co., PA.
Alexander and family moved west to Warren Co., OH circa 1813. The stay in Warren
Co. was brief, with the family finally settling in the northern tier of Preble
Co., OH near Gettysburg, Jefferson Twp.
Alexander was a Presbyterian; a man of broad learning & for many years, a
teacher in the public schools of Preble Co. He was usually the only teacher in
his district, and at the same time carried on the operations of his farm.
