DemitaJo Anne (Beckley) Swankier, age 56, passed away in the comfort of her home November 1st with her children and family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Demita was born on March 12, 1960 to Walter Waine and Lois (Anthony) Beckley. Demita grew up in Fridley, MN before moving to Longville in 1975, she attended Remer High School. After marrying her husband, John on August 16, 1980, they resided in Brainerd.

She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother of four children, and grandmother to 5 grandchildren, who she truly adored and who loved her. She loved her "Sugar Bear" with all her heart. Demita held her friends and family near and dear with many becoming honorary members of her family.

She was a cat lover, caring for and owning many cats in her lifetime. She worked at Mills Fleet Farm for many years nurturing relationships with co-workers and customers who adored her. She had a passion for the Minnesota Twins. One of her favorite pastimes was watching and rooting for her "Twinkies". She enjoyed playing cribbage, and spending time with her family.

Demita is survived by her children, son, Anthony (Jenny) Swankier; daughters, Ashley (Mat) Wingert and Angela-Marie; her mother, Lois (Bob) Smith of Burnsville, NC; mother-in-law, Bette Swankier of Remer, MN; grandchildren, Amy, Izaiah, Alexandra, Owen and Ivy; sister, Tamara Beckley of St. Paul; brother, George (Briteny) Polo of Asheville NC and many other relatives.

Demita is preceded in death by her husband John, son Andrew, father Walter Waine Beckley, father-in-law Glenn Swankier, and grandparents Moran Anthony and Marvel Peterson.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Sam Anderson officiating. Visitation will begin the hour prior to services. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home.
