Myrtle and family moved around a bit. During one of the moves, Myrtle and her children were walking from the Nebraska train station to the farm that Dee has secured, got caught in a blizzrd and nearly froze to death. After Dee gave up farming, they ending up in the east bottoms of Kansas City MO where Dee became a night watchman at the Speas Vinegar plant.
After her husband died, Myrtle went to spend some time in Litchfield NE with Dee's little brother, John Wheeler Fox and family. John's wife was very religious, and would not tolerate smoking. Myrtle used to lock herself in the bathroom and smoke, and smoke would come rolling out from under the door. They saw the smoke and they could all smell the smoke on her, but she thought she was getting away with it. LOL
Mrs. Fox is remembered by some as a hard, demanding woman. A daughter-in-law reported that even her own grandkids were afraid of her, yet there is a hilarious story about the day they found the nerve to hide her dentures.
She and Mr. Fox seem a real-life picture of Jack Spratt and his wife, he being small and quiet, she being large and bossy.
In her defense, the woman had a hard life. She nearly froze to death in a Nebraska blizzard with 3 young children, two of whom lost toes and fingers, had 8 children spread over 23 years, widowed at 53 in a sudden and tragic way, and dead at 71.
Myrtle is the mother of Sara Marie Fox Hodges 1898, Everett Beal Fox 1900, Lucretia Blanche Fox Martin 1901, William Harold Fox 1908, Glenmore Daniel Fox 1912, Charlotte Pauline Fox Harness 1918, and Darwin Birch Fox 1921.
DC#16724 states she died at 3643 Prospect, KCMO, the home of her daughter and DC informant, Lucretia Martin.
