Kenneth L. Fordice, age 71, a former resident of North Powder and Cove, Oregon, died on December 16, 2006, in Winston, Oregon. He was born on August 28, 1935, in Enterprise, Oregon, to Willard and Lela Gray Fordice.
He grew up on a ranch near Flora, Oregon, on the breaks of the Grande Ronde River and later moved with his family to North Powder where he attended school.
He served honorably in the armed forces, worked on a ranch —which is what he loved most — and then worked as an engineer for the Oregon Department of Transportation for 30 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie of Winston; his mother, Lela Fordice of Baker City, Oregon; a son, Tony Fordice of Burns, Oregon; a daughter, Teena and her husband, Chuck Ballard of Union, Oregon; step-daughter, Lois and her husband, Dave Foster of Seattle, Washington; a brother, Keith and his wife, Judy Fordice of Hermiston, Oregon; sisters, Myrna and her husband, Ivan Hale of Montana and Sandy and her husband, Ron Sanderson of Arizona; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Fordice and sister, Donna. Graveside service was held in North Powder, on December 20, 2006.
"God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best."
Thank You to Elsie for sponsoring Ken's memorial.
