Cambodian Statesman. He served as the 32nd Prime Minister of Cambodia (People's Republic of Kampuchea) from June 27, 1981 to December 5, 1981. He joined the rebel group Khmer Issarak in 1949 at the age of 13 and fought against the French. He joined the Indochinese Communist Party two years later. During the 1970-1973 civil war in Cambodia, he supported the Khmer Rouge, but after they took power in 1975, he went into exile in Vietnam until coming back in 1979. After coming back to Cambodia, he served in the government, first as defense minister and then as prime minister. He served as prime minister until December 5, 1981 when he was removed from office on the orders of the Vietnamese government. He was arrested after his removal and was imprisoned until 1992. After his release, he came back to the Cambodian political scene and in 2014, was elected to the parliament. He was still serving in the parliament when he passed away.
