William Ramsey married Jane Hardwicke in 1771 in Virginia. He was the father of Bartholomew Ramsey, who settled the land they are buried on.
William Ramsey volunteered as a soldier in the Revolutionary War in 1779. He served 4 months and 10 days under Ben. Butler, Capt. Camplin, and Col. McDowell. He reenlisted in 1781 for 3 months as sergeant under Capt. Umphries.
