Lonnie Marion Dills, 88, of Cullowhee, died Thursday, Nov. 1, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Black Mountain Baptist Church. The Revs. Roger Stewman, Wesley Hooper and Eddie StilIwell officiated. Burial was at Pine Ridge Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Dean officiated graveside services, along with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 104. Pallbearers were Jim Ed Powell, Larry Bryson, Larry Watson, Cecil Dills, Keith Dills, Mickey Dills, Locke Bishop, Frank Dills and Billy Dills.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Burma and China with the 475th Infantry Merrills Marauders. He was chairman of the board of deacons for Black Mountain Baptist Church, member of the choir, and retired from Western Carolina University maintenance department as a rock mason. He was the son of the late John and Iva Bryson Dills.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Minnie Bryson Dills.
Surviving are two sisters, Pearl Buchanan of Huntersville and Selma Reese of Sylva; three sons, Lebern Dills, Kenneth Dills and Leonard Dills, all of Cullowhee; five daughters, Mary Sue Stephens of Sylva, Betty Littrell, Johnnie Nell Bishop and Ruth Thompson, all of Cullowhee, and Martha Fox of Franklin; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
