Mr. James Stephen Tuten, Sr., age 87, of Waycross died Sunday evening at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of Pierce County but had lived most of his life in Waycross. He was preceded in death by his parents William Mizner Tuten and Nettie Youmans Tuten, a brother Bill Tuten, 3 sisters Lera Coleman, Ruth Powers and Janie Strickland.

Mr. Tuten was retired owner of Waycross Battery and Electric. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, and the Big Brothers Sunday School Class. He was also on the Board of Trustees of the Salvation Army, Past Exalted Ruler of the Waycross Elks Club, Member and Past Chairman of the Georgia Automotive Wholesalers Association, Shrine Club, Dover's Bluff Hunting and Fishing Club and a member of the Family of Jesus Christ.

Mr. Tuten is survived by his loving wife Ruby Bowen Tuten of Waycross, a daughter Jeanene Zachry husband Mike of Blackshear and a son Jimmy Tuten wife Margaret of Blackshear, 4 grandchildren, Jenifer Raulerson husband Lanier of Douglas, Stephen Tuten wife Paula of Blackshear, Kim Zachry of Blackshear and Michael Zachry of Augusta, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 until 9pm at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
