John, an Episcopal priest, graduated from St. Johns College in York, England. The Power family came to the United States in 1884. John taught in England. He was the author of "Poems".

John was the Scoutmaster of the First Boy Scout Troop in Brownwood, Texas. He received the Silver Beaver Award in 1933.

John G. Power, LL.D. was ordained to the diaconate at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in North Platte, Nebraska on August 29, 1897.
