| Birth: | May 14, 1881 Rochester Monroe County New York, USA | | Death: | Apr. 26, 1950 Bay Point Suffolk County New York, USA |  US Congressman from New York and Federal Judge. Known as G. Murray Hulbert and Murray Hulbert, he graduated from New York Law School in 1902 and became an attorney in New York City. In 1914 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat. He was reelected in 1916 and served from March, 1915 until January, 1918, when he resigned to become New York City's Commissioner of Docks and Director of the Port of New York. In 1921 Hulbert was elected President of the New York Board of Aldermen and served as Acting mayor during the illness of Mayor John Hylan. He then resumed his law practice while also working as President of the Boston, Cape Cod and New York Canal Company. In June 1934 he was appointed US Judge for the Southern District of New York, and he was still serving on the bench at the time of his death. (bio by: Bill McKern)
