Ethyl Pauline (Allen) Smith, 86, of Nevada, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

Ethyl was born April 25, 1930, in Jewell, the daughter of Arlie D. and Amy E. (Harman) Allen. She graduated from Jewell High School and was united in marriage to Alvin C. “Al” Smith on June 20, 1948, in Jewell. In 1963, Ethyl and Al moved to Nevada and owned and operated Shur-Fit Bootery later becoming Al’s Shoes. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, sewing and quilting with her church quilters.

Ethyl was a member of the Nevada First United Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi.

Ethyl is survived by her daughters: Deena (Richard) Cross of West Des Moines and Dorian (Jim) Myhre of Nevada; her grandchildren: Marisa Myhre of Ames, Alex (Jennifer) Cross of Omaha, Miranda (Trevor) Keith of Norwalk and Adam Cross of West Des Moines; and one great-grandson, Liam Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters: Ada Beth Smith-Jones and Avon Golden-Norager.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada (1418 Fawcett Pkwy). Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, at the Nevada First United Methodist Church (1036 7th Street) with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Private inurnment will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada First United Methodist Church.
