| Birth: | Sep. 22, 1958 Aroostook County Maine, USA | | Death: | Dec. 18, 2006 Fayetteville Cumberland County North Carolina, USA | Mr. Parent was a retired Army master sergeant who had worked at the Joint Special Operations Command on Fort Bragg. He graduated from Limestone High School in Caribou, Maine, in 1978 and worked as a fireman and police officer before joining the Army in 1983. He came to Fort Bragg in 1992, and after his retirement from active duty he remained on post as a civilian contractor. He was very active in local politics, often speaking at public meetings of the Fayetteville city council, particularly on annexation issues. He ran for a seat on the council in 2005, narrrowly losing to the incumbent. Fayetteville Mayor Tony Chavonne said of him, "He was articulate and passionate and left no confusion about where he stood on an issue. After the election, I knew when I called him up to the podium that this mayor and council were about to get a tongue-lashing. But I also knew that his was the voice of many in our city. Fayetteville is a better city because of Tom Parent. For that we owe his family, and his memory, our gratitude." Parent was also an independent motorcyclist who rode with the Patriot Guard.
