Born into Life October 17, 1916 Born into Eternity April 15, 2009 Charles J. Vichuras passed away at the age of 92 on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Whispering Pines Health Care Center, Valparaiso, IN. He was born in Gary, IN on October 17, 1916 to the late Michael and Theresa Vichuras. Charles served as a Captain in the Gary Fire Department. He was a member of the Indiana Firefighter's Association, Inc., member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Joseph J. Ryder Council 4047, a 4th Degree member of the Abraham Lincoln Assembly, a Gold Card Member of the Gary Sportsman Club, and member of the Valparaiso Country Club. He was an avid golfer with three holes-in-one added to his credit, and loved landscaping. Most importantly in his life, he loved his God and his church. Survived by his loving wife of 69 1/2 years, Ann Vichuras; devoted daughter, Terri (Dick Deranian) Mertz; caring sister, Sister M. Evelyn of the Sisters of St. Casimir; nieces, Rita Gotch, Mary Ann (Norman) Frenchik, Marie (Naume) Vasileski; the families of Beth Ann (Todd) Griffin, Melanie (Dan) Germek, Stephanie (Kevin) Kieres, and Susan (Brian) Cheeseman. Preceded in death by brothers: August Vichuras, Rev. Michael J. Vichuras and Rev. Ignatius C. Vichuras; and sister, Rosaline Nelson. Funeral Mass St. Paul Catholic Church, 1855 W. Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso, IN with Rev. Joseph Pawlowski, officiating. Entombment, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
