| Birth: | 1287 | | Death: | Aug. 16, 1342 |  French Royalty. Born in Artois, France he was the son of Philip Artois and Blanche of Brittany. He played a significant role in the succession of Philip VI of France. In 1332 he fled France to avoid arrest after fallacious information on his part was presented as to his right to the title of King of France. Arriving in England 1334, he encouraged King Edward III to take the title of King of France as a descendant of Philip IV. He died in London in 1343.
