Max Wayne Schley, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2016, at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living.

He was born November 19, 1932, to Ira Wayne Schley and Laura Belle Heaton Schley in Ririe, Idaho . He spent wonderful childhood years there, attending grade school in Ririe. His family moved to Ogden, Utah where his Dad worked for a supply depot during World War II. Max then moved with his family back to Idaho, settling in Idaho Falls where he finished junior high and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1951. He joined the Navy in 1951 and spent four years in boot camp, training school, and aboard a ship (USS LEYTE CV32). He received an honorable discharge in 1955.

From 1955 until 1960, he attended University of Idaho, University of Utah, and graduated from Idaho State College (now Idaho State University) with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology. He worked for 25 years in the Oil Patch. His hobbies were gardening, photography and computers.

He is survived by his sisters, Joan Moon and Betty (Vic) Erickson; sister-in-law, Carol Schley and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Uncle Max". He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Belle Schley; his father, Wayne Schley and a brother, Robert Lloyd Schley.

Max lived for a while at Peak Village and Turtle and Crane Assisted Living. His family would like to thank all those who participated in his care there. Thank you to Aspen Hospice; his wonderful nurse, Monica; helpers and aides who took wonderful care of him.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the
Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday prior to services from 10-11:00 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.).
