Thomas Earl Tarr, aka T.E. was the third son of Thomas Earl and Pearl E. Coker Tarr. He was their "rock", the son they depended on most of all and the one who was always there for family and friends. T. E. was called to the service of his country in 1943 during World War II. We all were proud of him, yet missed him very much, praying every day that he would be returned to us safely. He was in the Infantry Airborne and was flown into Germany in a glider behind the enemy lines to squash the enemy in France and Germany. When the War was over the military offered him a discharge before his enlistment was up but, T. E. refused because he would have had to join the Reserves for six years. My mother, his oldest sister said , T. E. told them that he would not agree to this, that when his time was up he wanted it to be finished, so T. E. served his remaining time as a Army cook after attending Cooking School.
When he came home to Bowie Texas in 1945 or 1946, he met and married Lorene Taylor. They leased a farm south of Bowie for awhile where T. E. helped my Dad part - time in H. N. Crocker drilling business. They moved to the Panhandle of Texas near Sun Ray for a short time after their daughter was born in 1950. Then, found and bought a dairy farm just between his brother, Thomas Coker Tarr's place and Bennington, Byran County on Cade's road.
There he and Lorene lived for forty something years, building two homes and increasing their acreage. When he died he had many heads of beef cattle and over 400 acres. He had served his community as a member of the School Board, and his church as a Deacon.
He and his wife , Lorene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 1997 with their family and friends in the Bennington High School Cafeteria. He was loved by people far and wide as well as his family, a living sister, younger living brother, many nieces and nephews.
