Mrs. Adrian George Hammontree was a well known writer
Maryville, June 2 - Mrs Adrain George Hammontree, veteran school teacher and writer, died at her home near Maryville yesterday. She was 64. Mrs. Hammontree had been a teacher over 40 years. At the time of her death she was a teacher at Everett High. She wrote under the name of “Adrian George.” Leading magazines published her poetry. Two years ago she won Atlantic Monthly’s regional poetry prize. She was working on a a book which was to have been published this summer. She had also written short stories with mountain settings. Survived by her husband, William D. Hammontree; three sisters, Mrs. E. H. (Mary) Dunlap, Mrs R. J. (Lillian) Parson, of Louisville, Mrs. George (Buena) Griffits, of Greenback.
