JANE M. CONNETT

Des Moines, Iowa

Jane M. Connett, 61, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 9 at Iles Funeral Home - Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Warren Powers Cemetery, Polk County, Iowa.

Jane was born October 30, 1945, the daughter of Arthur and Marguerite Gurnsey in Des Moines, where she had lived all of her life. Jane was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. On December 12, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Connett at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Jane had worked for the State of Iowa, Brenton Bank and Farm Bureau in data entry. She went back to school, attending DMACC to receive her degree in social services so she could work with children. At the time, due to the economy, there were no jobs available in social services, so she began her career at HyVee on Euclid. After 15 years, the last of which were in the bakery, Jane retired due to disability in September 2006. Jane enjoyed children, reading, fishing, camping, traveling and needle point. She was a determined person, very considerate to others and their feelings and enjoyed helping others.

Jane is survived by her husband, Robert; son Bradly; two grandchildren, Brendan Joseph Connett and Alexander Lee Rueskens all of Des Moines, Iowa; six brothers: Dean Gurnsey of Florida, Lynn Gurnsey of Calif., Allan (Jan) Gurnsey of Texas, Dennis (Barb) Gurnsey of Ankeny, IA, Don (Trudy) Gurnsey of Urbandale, IA and Jon Gurnsey of New Prague, MN; three sisters Virginia Neades (Bill) of Council Bluffs, IA, Patricia Siedelmann (Lloyd) of Omaha, NE and Sharon Smith (Gary) of Texas; 22 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to her family.
