Obituary in Carrollton, IL Newspaper:
"John L. Wood, son of Aman and Sarah (Baker) Wood, was born in Kentucky. He was reared on a farm and has always been engaged in farming. On April 15 (could be 14), 1859, he was united in marriage with Mary Jane Marshall, daughter of Sanford and Mary Marshall, natives of Kentucky. Mr. & Mrs. Wood were the parents of four children: Maxey, died Jan. 4, 1863; Letitia, wife of Lualvis Hutchins & living with her father; Rufus, living at home, and Adella, who died in 1869. Mrs. Wood departed this life May 14, 1878, and was buried in the Maberry cemetery. Mr. Wood owns 97 acres of land on Sec. 36, t. 10, R. 13, on which he raised stock and grain."
Another obit. states that he was aged 75 yrs., 1 mo. and died at his home six miles SW of Carrollton. Mr. Wood or "Judge" as he was familiarly called came to Greene county in 1833 and spent the greater portion of his life on the farm where he died. Funeral services were held at the Woody school house, Wednesday afternoon. The remains were buried at the Maberry Cemetery, one mile southwest of Maberry.
