Frank Messer, Sr., age 89 of Hendersonville, TN, entered into eternal rest in his heavenly homeland on August 30, 2016.

Born in the Great Smoky Mountains of Sevier County, TN on January 16, 1927, Frank was one of eight children. Although, his family relocated and he grew up in Dandridge, TN. Sometime later, he moved to Benton County where he met, fell in love with, and later married his wife Mary Nell. Family was of utmost importance to Frank, and this priority was second only to God.

Frank loved the Lord Jesus and deepened that relationship with Him over the course of his life. He was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he was a greeter in their hospitality ministry. His faith manifested itself ever-so brilliantly in the manner with which he'd greet everyone he encountered, he always had a huge smile and a big hug at the ready. Additionally, Frank regularly kept in touch with his nieces and nephews, and that was an act which never went unnoticed. We will miss "his servant's heart" of constant support and encouragement which was such a blessing to our family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nola Messer; brothers, Russ Messer, Andrew Messer, Bill "Willie" Messer; sister, Glada Hubbard, Maxie Messer; and son, Billy (Judy) Messer; and wife, Mary Nell Messer. Frank leaves behind his sons, James Albert Messer, Frank "Buddy" Messer Jr., Eddie (Sue) Messer, Robert (Glenda) Messer; daughters, Nellie (George) Austin, Linda (Bob) Cathey; brothers, Hoover Messer, Henry Messer; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's honor to The Gideon's International.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 1 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and again on Friday, September 2 from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. A Celebration of Frank's Life will follow visitation on Friday at 3:30 p.m. All will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075 hendersonvillefh.com 615-824-3855
