Harry C. "Bud" McGaughey, 79, of Spring Church, Kiski Township, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 5, 2002) in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Harrison, where he was a patient since Oct. 25. Born Aug. 1, 1923, in Avonmore, he lived in the Kiski Valley all of his life. A veteran, he served in World War II with the Army in the European Theater. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Apollo and was a rural carrier for 27 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. McGaughey was a member of Blessed Community Church in East Vandergrift, the Elks in Apollo and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Vandergrift. He enjoyed golfing. Survivors include a son, John M. (Barbara) McGaughey of Erie; a daughter, Susan M. McGaughey of Apollo; a sister, Martha A. Hopkins of Kiski Township; and his wife, Gwenneth McGaughey of Apollo. Also surviving are two grandsons, John L. and Shane M. McGaughey. In addition, he is survived by his companion with whom he lived, H. Louise Shellhammer; his companion's four daughters, Kathleen Daugherty and Shirley Shellhammer of Spring Church, Dawn Klingensmith of New Stanton and Lisa Liska of Apollo; her three granddaughters, Misty Cramer, Heather Klingensmith and Katy Liska; and her great-grandson, Zachary Stoughton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Mary Elizabeth Walker McGaughey. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the GERALD J. MEDICE FUNERAL HOME, 1916 Moore Ave., North Apollo, by his pastor, the Rev. Michael Mrasz. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
