Naoma Jeanne Wilhelm Turley, 80, of Holbrook, Ariz., returned to her Heavenly Father Monday, August 22, 2016.
Jeanne was born March 29, 1936, in St. Johns, Ariz., the third of four children of George Andrew and Hazel Hunt Wilhelm.
As a child, Jeanne lived in St. Johns and Vernon, Ariz., with most of her early years spent in Winslow, Ariz. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1954. She was involved in music, theatre, Honor Society, Girls’ State and Future Homemakers of America.
She earned a scholarship and attended Brigham Young University for two years, majoring in home economics. There she met Loren Neil Brazell of Mesa, Ariz. They were married on June 6, 1956, in the LDS Mesa Arizona Temple.
They lived in numerous places throughout Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Nevada during their married life. They welcomed into their home two daughters and five sons. Loren and Jeanne were married for 32 years before divorcing.
Jeanne remained in Vernon, raising her youngest daughter as a single mother. She worked for the Vernon Consolidated School District in administration, until her retirement in 1995. She then lived in Gallup, N.M., for several years with her oldest daughter and then returned to Vernon.
Jeanne was briefly married to Winslow Golly, and has stayed close to his children, loving them as her own.
On July 6, 2013, Jeanne was sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS Snowflake Arizona Temple to a former sweetheart of her youth, Frank L. Turley of Holbrook, residing happily between Vernon and Holbrook.
Jeanne was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ remained steadfast throughout her life. She actively participated in the church and served in many callings. One of her favorite callings was as the Show Low Stake single-adult activities leader. She was very influential in the lives of many. She reflected her love of the Savior through her empathy, love and service to others.
Her family was always her top priority and her pride and joy. She was a skillful homemaker, passing on her many talents to her children.
Jeanne played the piano from a young age, being tutored in both classical and dance band music by her father, whom she lost at the early age of 14. As she progressed with her talent, it remained a strong connection to her father.
Survivors include her husband, Frank L. Turley; her seven children, Lori K. (Robert V.) Mortensen, L. Kevin (Silvia) Brazell, M. Sean (Lesa) Brazell, Eric N. (Lanell) Brazell, Bradley J. (Wendy) Brazell, Brian J. (Ranita) Brazell, and J. Nicole (Isaac E.) Sanchez; ex-husbands, Loren N. Brazell and Winslow Golly; and brothers, Guy A. (Lynn) Wilhelm and Melvin J. (Ruth) Wilhelm. Jeanne’s posterity includes 30 grand children and 17 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Andrew Wilhelm and Hazel Hunt Wilhelm Singleton, and older brother, George Alma “Buddy” Wilhelm.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Vernon with a viewing before from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will directly follow at the Vernon Cemetery.
