Born May 7, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, Carla was the daughter of the late George Henry and Frieda Laura Gockel of Bainbridge, Ohio.
Carla graduated from Kent State University in Ohio with a degree in secondary English education and a minor in music. She taught high school English until the birth of twins in 1971. After the twins entered school, Carla returned to college to earn a Master’s degree in Library Science from University of Rhode Island. She enjoyed her professional life as school librarian at Fogarty Memorial Elementary School in Chepachet, RI until she retired in 2005.
She and her husband, George moved to The Villages, Florida in 2006, where they enjoyed playing golf and socializing with their fellow Rhode Island transplants. Carla was an active member of both of her churches, Kingston Congregational Church in Rhode Island and the United Church of Christ at The Villages.
She is survived by her children, son George Emerson Moore IV and his wife Jennifer Van Ness Moore of Las Vegas, NV, and daughter Dawn Huff of East Greenwich, RI, as well as her grandson, Aidan Huff, two sisters, Lucy Barnett, and Gretchen Perez, and six brothers Michael Gockel, Lawrence Gockel, William Gockel, Andrew Gockel, Walter Gockel, and Fred Gockel.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 1 at at Kingston Congregational Church, 2610 Kingstown Road, Kingston, with a reception following. Burial was private.
