He was a track star at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1933, and received a law degree from St. John's University in 1936. Healey practiced law in New York City as a staff attorney for the New York State Labor Relations Board and as an Assistant United States attorney. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. After World War II he was New York City's Assistant Corporation Counsel from 1946 to 1948 and Counsel to the Bronx Borough President from 1948 to 1956. Healey was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat in the February 1956 special election held to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Sidney A. Fine. He was afterwards elected to four full terms and served from 1956 to 1965. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1964, losing the Democratic primary to James Scheuer. After leaving Congress Healey moved to Southampton, where he livesd in retirement. (bio by: Bill McKern)
