Robert Drake
Birth: Jul. 23, 1581
Essex, England
Death: Jan. 14, 1668
Rockingham County
New Hampshire, USA

Robert Drake, my 9th great-grandfather, was the son of William Drake (1553-1616) and Joan Webb Merylls (1557-1617), both born in Halstead, Essex County, England. Records indicate that Joan died while still in England; Robert died in Rockingham, NH. He had one sister Isabella and a brother Joseph.

Robert married Jane Gawton (Alt Ganton) and they had four children: Nathaniel, Susanna, my 8th great-grandfather Francis, and Abraham, all of whom were born in England.

One source states Robert had two wives: Jane Gawton and Susan Knopp. I know nothing of Susan.

Robert was a sergemaker. He first settled in Exeter, and he moved to Hampton about 1650 or 1651. He was a selectman of Hampton in 1653 and 1664; jury 1653; grand jury 1662; was a freeman April 1663.

According to records Susan Knopp married Robert in 1611 and then he married Joane Gawton in June 6th 1622. Susannah was born in 1610, Nathaniel in 1612, Francis was born in 1615/1618, and Abraham was born in 1621.

Nope you are correct! Found a record stating Nathaniel s mother is Susan Knopp. They are full brothers.

However I must say that you may very well have two different Roberts confused.
