Apparently in Good Health He Had Eaten a Hearty Meal Short time Before
Will Dodge and Bernard Hoyt drove to Akron, Colo., Tuesday night upon receiving word of the sudden death of their brother, Jack Dodge. He had been working on a farm near Akron and seemed to be feeling fine, having eaten a hearty dinner at noon. After dinner he went out to a granary to lie down to rest and apparently had quietly passed away while sleeping.
Jackson Omer Dodge, son of Erwin and Alice Dodge was born at Elyria, Nebr., April 26th, 1889 and departed this life suddenly of acute dilation of the heart on July 24th, 1934 near Akron, Colo., at the age of 45 years, 2 months and 28 days. He grew to manhood at Elyria and in the year of 1916 he took a claim near Craig, Colo., where he lived until he was drafted with the first draft into the World War service where he served his country for one year and nine months, about twelve months being served overseas. He was honorable discharge from the service May 16, 1919 and on May 17th, 1919 he re-enlisted for one year in the army and after spending a few weeks with his parents he went into service at Camp Kearney in California. September 15, 1920, he was married to Pearle Simpson at Ord, Nebr.
To this happy union was born one daughter, Virginia Pearle and the mother departed this life the day following her birth, which was June 14, 1921. He made his home in Elyria until his death.
His mother, father, one brother and sister preceded him in death. He was a kind neighbor, everyone's friend and respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, Virginia Pearle of Lincoln, Nebr., one sister, Mrs. Bernard Hoyt, Elyria, and one brother, William Dodge, Elyria, and numerous other relatives and many friends.
His remains were brought to Ord where funeral services were held at Sowl's funeral home on Friday afternoon, July 27th and interment was in Ord cemetery, Rev. Kearns of Burwell conducting the services. Pallbearers were Hans Fischer Jr., Bert Whiting, Fred Meyers, Dave Palmer, Leon Carkoski and Clarence Johnson.
