Waynesville - Roy Ernest Crawford, 68, of Waynesville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Mission Hospitals.

He was born in Jackson County on Nov. 26, 1936, to the late Cicero and Myrtle Robinson Crawford. He worked as an upholsterer for many years. He was the most loved person and he loved people. He enjoyed guitar, drinking coffee, and playing bluegrass Gospel music. He always looked froward to going on family vacations. He enjoyed, most of all, ministering with music to shut-ins, nursing homes and adult daycares. His family was blessed with the Christian heritage he gave them. He was a member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher of Sunrise Baptist Church in Asheville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Crawford.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Mills Crawford; two sons, Marvin Crawford and his girlfriend, Alisa Pressley, of Cruso and Melvin Crawford of Lakeland, Fla.; two daughters, Trudy Hutchison and her husband, Hutch, of Candler and Angela Smith and her husband, Ricky, of Waynesville; four brothers, Alvin Crawford of Woodruff, S.C., Earl Crawford of Fairview, Clyde Crawford of Kings Mountain and Carl Crawford of Woodruff, S.C.; six sisters, Ethel Arrington of Waynesville, Harriet Woods of Roanoke, Va., Evelyn Turpin of Asheville, Lena Caldwell of Black Mountain, Louise Sutton of Clyde and Katherine Chesney of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Nicole Gaddis, Little Marvin, and Levi Crawford, Melissa Crawford, Joseph Crawford, Latasha Crawford, Brandon Presnell and Ethan Presnell; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Felecia Gaddis; eight stepgrandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Rev. Bill Higgins and Daryl Hannah officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Family Cemetery.
