Holladay - Funeral services for George Washington Vance, 94, 4123 Highland Dr., well-known former contractor who died Thursday, will be conducted Saturday.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Winder Ward chapel Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4120 Highland Dr.
Friends may call at the place of services from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Mr. Vance was born March 27, 1864, at Cranberry, Mitchell County, N.C., a son of John and Lucinda Sizemore Vance. He came to Utah in 1886 as a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, lived in Ogden for many years.
He later moved to Salt Lake City where he lived in Cannon Twenty-sixth and Tenth Wards. At the time of death, he was a high priest in the Winder Ward.
As a contractor and builder, he built many churches including the Cannon and Belvedere Wards in Salt Lake City and the First Ward in Ogden.
He married Amanda Ermine Hartley in the Logan Temple. She preceded him in death. On June 17, 1914, he married Rose Harriet Cook in the Salt Lake Temple.
Survivors include his widow; three sons and three daughters, George L. Vance, Ogden; Jesse L. R. Vance, Vallejo, Calif; Louis C. Vance, Mrs. George (Lillie) Hatch, Woods Cross; Mrs. Harry N. (Maurine) Poll, Mrs. James F. (Afton) Perry, all of Salt Lake City; 36 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren.
