Doyle Lynn Barnes, born May 6, 1955 died Friday, August 12, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

Lynn was a forty year worker at Newport Utilities Board in the water and sewer department. He was of the Baptist faith. Lynn was a hardworking, caring family man whose daughter and granddaughter was the love of his life along with his new great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Skye Howery.

Lynn served in the Military in the 101st Airborne division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was also a former football player at Cocke County High School, Class of 1974. His hobbies included cruises, historical pictures of downtown Newport and collector of old coins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene Barnes; father, Doyle Valentine; uncles, Bobby and Billy Barnes; nephews, Toot Spurgeon, Danny Phillips, and Jon Williams.

He is survived by his daughter, Misty Lynne Barnes; granddaughter, Alyssa Lynne James; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Skye Howery; brother, David Barnes (Beth); sister, Donna Shults (Terry); several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Special "Thank You" to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 15, 2016 in the Stokely's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
