John Marvin Holdridge was born December 15, 1941 in Peoria, IL to Marvin and Mary (Holzinger) Holdridge and passed away August 9, 2016 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE. John was raised in Farmington, IL where he attended the Farmington Public School graduating in 1959. Following high school John attended the University of Iowa majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
John lived in Chicago, Dallas and Kansas City following his career prior to settling in Plattsmouth, NE where he has lived the past thirty-one years. On November 7, 1985 John married Marcia E. Meisinger in Las Vegas, NV and they have shared over 30 years of love.
He has worked in the welding and gas fields most of his life retiring from ESAB as a territorial sales manager after 33 years in 2003. John and his wife Marcia co-owned and operated Marcia's Tours for 30 years where John delighted in showing their clients numerous new and unique places around the world. They also co-owned Medical Gas Inspection Services, Inc. where John served Nebraska and Iowa as a Medical Gas Inspector/Verifier since 2004. In his spare time John would help out Harvey Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. He was a member of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, American Welding Society and National VICA Technical committee.
John's life was also filled with many community involvements including serving for many years as member and President of the Plattsmouth Rural Fire Board, a Lord and Past King of the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival. He was a member of Plattsmouth Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M. John loved working with computers and especially watching great-nephew Austin's sporting events.
John is survived by his wife, Marcia of Plattsmouth; children: Mark & wife Beth of Blair, daughter Maria and husband Christopher Hendricks of Lenexa, KS, grandchildren Maggie and Jacob Hendricks of Lenexa, KS; sister Nancy and husband A.L. Olson of Morton, IL, Justice William Holdridge of Farmington, IL; brother-in-law Steve and wife Verna Meisinger of Louisville; plus several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mary Holdridge, father and mother-in-law Harold and Martha Meisinger and brother-in-law James S. Meisinger.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit with Father Loras Grell officiating.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Harvey Funeral Home with the family present 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be held at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 7:30 p.m. followed by a time for memories.
Pallbearers are Jacob Fleischman, Shane Greise, Alan Horn, Ted Jochim, John Olson and Bill Worlein. Honororary Pallbearers are Courtney Harvey, Kayla Harvey, Austin Meisinger, Ann Olson, Alicia Oswalt and the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department.
