Haston was born on 23 January 1920 to Willie and Myrtle V. Pack Waggoner of Reynold College Community. His siblings are Clarence, Houston, Junior, and Cora. Haston married Mable Pedigo on 14 May 1938 in DeKalb County; their children are Cecil, Austin, Kathleen, Mary and Carolyn and son, Willie Isaac Waggoner who died as an infant. He entered the United States Army on 7 April 1944 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. A Private First Class, he was with Company I, 86th Infantry, and served in the European Theater from 22 October 1944 to 9 April 1945 in Italy and Rome-Arno. Haston was wounded in action on 20 February 1945 in Italy, and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European Theater Medal with one bronze star. He was given a certificate of disability discharge on 25 January 1946 at McGuire Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Dying on 5 November 1973, he was buried in the Adcock Cemetery.
