Wife of Horace Gass
In 1934 a featured article appeared in the Asheville Citizens Times describing her as the last closely connected descendant of the pioneering Mingus family remaining in the park. The next year Florence donated to the park service a few pioneering artifacts, some of which had been passed down from her Mingus family line. Occasionally on display can be seen her spinning wheel, loom, candle moulds, and knife and fork box.
