Born Anita Belle Colton, she is best known to many for her recordings of the songs "Honeysuckle Rose" and "Sweet Georgia Brown". After beginning her career in burlesque, she later work with such Jazz legends as Gene Krupa and David Roy Eldridge. In 1981, her autobiography "High Times, Hard Times" was released recounting her struggle with drug addiction. O'Day was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1997 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She died of complications from pneumonia. (bio by: C.S.)
