Major League Baseball Player. He was a pitcher for eleven seasons (1967 to 1977) with the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians. His best year was in 1971 when he won a season high 20 games and was part of a pitching rotation that included Jim Palmer and Mike Cuellar who also were 20 game winners. He was a member of the 1968 World Champion Tigers and the 1971 American League Pennant winning Orioles. He was named to the 1972 American League All Star Team. After retiring as a player, Dobson was a coach for eight seasons (1982 to 1984, 1988 to 1990, 1991, 1996) with the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles. In more recent years, Dobson had been working as a scout for the San Francisco Giants. In 414 career regular season games, Dobson won 122 and lost 129 with 2120 innings pitched and a 3.54 lifetime ERA. He died one day after being diagnosed with leukemia. (bio by: C.S.)
