Biography

Edgar French Strother was for twelve years managing editor of '''World's Work''' and author of a half dozen books. He began his writing career as a newspaperman in California where he meet Herbert Hoover. A relationship developed and Mr. Hoover, upon becoming president asked "French" Strothers to come to Washington and be his personal secretary. His main job was research, gathering material for speeches and other public papers to be written for, then by the President.

"He took no part in politics. A man of highest character and ideals, he saw the futility of engaging in antagonisms, and confined himself to literary endeavors" The Herald News, Franklin Pennsylvania, Wed. March 15th, 1933

French was the son of John Pryor Strother and Mildred Elizabeth Lewis Strother of Miami, Saline County, Missouri.

He was the husband of Grace Dudley Strother, she was born 1893 in Lexington, Kentucky.

They had one son:

Edgar French Strother's last rites were held at the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation in Mineola New York. He was buried at Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, New York. Ex President Hoover and son Allan Hoover were in attendance.
