William "Bill" Anderson Potts was born in Centerville, Tennessee November 6, 1921 to the late Perry and Annie Mae Jackson Potts. Bill passed away very quietly Sunday morning, August 3, 2004 in Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1955, Bill founded, owned, and operated WDKN Radio in Dickson. His life there was full of business achievements including being responsible for the beginning of the "Old Timer's Day" in May of each year, helping stage the American Cancer Society's April Auction each year, the "Friendly Neighbor" program, the long running "Swap ‘n Shop" program. He was past president of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters. Bill was active in civic affairs in Dickson including one organization being very close to his heart, the Dickson Evening Rotary Club. He had a 30 year record of perfect attendance and attended faithfully until his recent illness. He served the club in all the offices from Board of Directors to being Past President of the club. He was honored as being a Paul Harris Fellow. A life long member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on various committees including the Chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Bill was a Mason and a Shriner. He served his country faithfully during World War II in the United States Air Corps, where he was a fighter pilot and flew P-38 Lightnings and P-61 Black Widows. He married the former Mable Lorena Ray on February 24, 1948.
Surviving other than his wife of 56 years, Lorena Ray "Lo" Potts are his daughters: Ann Potts Sechser and her husband, Don of Franklin, Tennessee, and Carol Potts Sensing and her husband, Barry of Franklin; his grandchildren: Martha Tidwell, Will Tidwell, John Sensing, Ann Sensing, and Lindsay Sechser.
