Virl Vonands Brown, 93, of Blackfoot, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Virl was born October 31, 1922, to William George Brown and Ann Elizabeth Beddis Brown in Rockland, Idaho.

In 1942 he married Norma Hunt, in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1944 Virl was drafted into the United States Navy, leaving his wife and two children. When he was released at the end of World War II, Virl went to work at Crystal Springs Trout Farm; then in 1973 he came to Pingree to manage the Trout farm.

Virl enjoyed the people and business in Blackfoot, so when they wanted him to transfer somewhere else, he said, “No, he liked it here.”

Virl is survived by his wife of 74 years, Norma; children, Virl A (Janny) Brown, James A (Angie) Brown, Sandra (Hyrum) Dille, Douglas (Linda) Brown, and Mary Baca.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Kay; son, Reed Carl; two sisters, and eight brothers.

He will be missed by his large family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Blackfoot 3rd Ward, 845 Grant Street. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Rockland Valley View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
