Vernell Tucker Batts, of Petersburg, VA, was the mother of Gravel Run Baptist Church, Carson (Dinwiddie County), VA and was a faithful member and active participant in church ministry. She served joyfully in the deaconess ministry, as president, missionary ministry, as president, Pastor's Aide Ministry, hospitality ministry and the booster service.
She sang with the Dolly Gospelaires. One of her favorite selections was "Blessings after Blessings." Her favorite Bible scripture was Psalms 27. She was a foster grandmother, a volunteer for the Mary Carter Beacon House and was a member of Daughter's of Rebecca Tents.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Gravel Run Baptist Church.
