Victim of Death
William Monroe Harrison died suddenly at the family residence in the Sapa community on Tuesday, March 29, from an acute heart attack. He had been in failing health for the past two years but his death came unexpectedly and was a source of sadness to his loved ones and many friends.
Funeral rites were held from the Long Branch Methodist Church on Thursday morning 11 o'clock with the Reverend Palmertree from Kilmichael, long-time friend of the family, conducting the service. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of burial arrangements and serving as pallbearers were the following nephews: Lloyd, Bill, Hubert and Sim Harrison; Aubrey Ray, Carl Ray, Ellis Childs, and Elbert Childs. Burial was in the Long Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Harrison was born on January 16, 1878 in Webster County and had lived his entire life in the county. He engaged in farming. As a member of the El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, he lived his religious principles in his association with his fellowman. He was a dutiful companion, a considerate father, and a friend to all.
Fifty-one years ago he was married to Miss Mary Elnora Hardy, who survives her companion's death. Other surviving relatives are four daughters: Mrs. Lorena Rodgers, Jackson; Mrs. Beulah Morgan, Lepanto, Arkansas; Mrs. Iris Rodgers, Grenada; and Mrs. Addie Carwyle, Eupora; two sons, Limmie Harrison, Greenwood; and Alton Harrison, Eupora; one brother, Tom Harrison, Eupora; three sisters, Mrs. Nin Ray, Eupora; Mrs. May Pritchard, Gordo, Alabama; and Mrs. Connie Foster, Millport, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
