In 1944 her brother Erich, a diplomat, defected to the British. She, her brother Michael, and her parents were arrested on the basis of "guilt by association," and sent to concentration camps. Isa survived stays in Ravensbrück, Buchenwald und Dachau. After the war, she resumed her film career, but in 1951 she joined the order of the Schwestern vom Heiligsten Herzen Jesu (Sisters of the Sacre Coeur). From 1983 to 1995 she participated in the ARD religious program "Das Wort zum Sonntag," (The Word for Sunday).
