Emma Squires (Emmy, as she was nicknamed) was born in Ohio in 1866. She was the eleventh and final child of Catherine McManigal Green Squires and the fourth and youngest child of Jesse Squires. By 1880, her parents had moved to Nebraska where on a September day, at the age of 20, she married Curtis Hover.
Emmy and Curtis lived in Herman where most of their six children were born. She "dropped dead in the yard" in August 1929, and was buried in Herman.
