Deputy from Saybrook to the General Court
[Despite the age 63 on Robert2 Chapman's gravestone, he was born not in 1648 but 1646; his sister Anna was born 12 September 1648. The Saybrook, Conn., record of his birth, moreover, reads "the middle of [not 16] September 1646."
Chapman was a lifelong resident of Saybrook but died and was buried in Hartford, where he had gone to represent Saybrook as a deputy to the General Assembly. It is said that he died suddenly in the courtroom soon after the opening of the General Assembly’s November session. That session, however, opened on 3 November and adjourned the same date.
