Cornelius Breen was born on March 2, 1881 according to information gleaned from his World War I draft card. He is the son of Peter Breen and Jannetje Tanis and was born after their immigration to the United States.

He was married about 1912 to Kate Vander Starr, daughter of Martin and Mary Vander Starr. To this union was born two daughters, Marion I Breen whom to my knowledge never married and Janet C. Breen (1917-1997) who married Ed Lester Helge. According to one of the censuses he was a bookkeeper for a meat packing plant.

Cornelius Breen died on March 8, 1939. He is interred at Mount Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago. The following appeared in the Chicago Tribune on March 9, 1939:
