Pauline Ortman Welle
1882 - 1959

Pauline Ortmann was born June 21, 1882 in Meire Grove, Stearns, Minnesota. She was the sixth of the nine children of Bernard and Bernadina (Kruze) Ortmann.

On November 11, 1902, when Pauline Ortmann was 20 years old, she married Henry Welle, son of Christoph and Elizabeth (Primus) Welle, at St. Johns Church in Meire Grove, Minnesota. The young couple settled on a farm located in Section 10 of St. Martin township in Stearns County, Minn. The first 4 children of Henry & Pauline Welle were born on the farm 2 miles north of the village of St. Martin, Minn.

Their farming neighbors in St. Martin were relatives of Pauline and Henry. They include John & Mary (Welle) Mehr, Anton & Apollonia Welle, Henry & Anna (Nathe) Stroeing and Peter & Anna (Stroeing) Doll. In 1912 / 1913, all of these families, except the Mehr family, sold their St. Martin farms and purchased farms in the area around Lastrup, Morrison County, Minnesota. Several of Paulines siblings also moved north to Morrison County.

Henry & Pauline raised their 12 children on the Lastrup farm and in 1949, they moved to Pierz, Minn. The homestead was sold to son Harold Welle.

Ten years later, on May 30, 1959, Pauline Welle passed away in Pierz, age 76 years.

Pauline Welle is survived by her husband, Henry Welle Sr, and her 12 children:

Herman J Welle, LIttle Falls;
Victor H Welle, Little Falls;
Mrs. Jerome Flicker (Lydia) Rochester;
Harold A. Welle, Lastrup and
Ambrose Welle, Pierz.

There are 43 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Two brothers, Herman and Casper Ortmann, St. Cloud; also survive.

NOTE
*the last name is spelled Ortman in Morrison County and St. Cloud. In the other parts of Stearns County the sir name continues to be Ortmann.
