Another Old Settler Gone
Mrs. Matilda L. Dorsey died at the residence of her son, S.L. Dorsey, in Moro township, January 15, 1881.
She was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, February 20, 1794. She was married to Nimrid Dorsey in Jefferson County, Kentucky, June 15, 1809. Nearly forty-seven years ago, she emigrated with her family to Madison County, where she has ever since made her home. She lived with her husband forty years and two months when death separated them.
She was a sister of the late Elias Dorsey, who died at Bunker Hill only a few years ago, and who during the War of 1812, proved himself to be worthy of all honors bestowed upon him. Benjamin L. Dorsey, whose obituary we published only a few months since, was also a brother of this honorable old lady, whose death at the ripe age of nearly eighty-seven we chronicle today.
Of her own family, which was large, only one son, Samuel L. Dorsey, survives her. She professed faith in The Lord Jesus Christ and united with the Christian Church at Ridgley, in 1847 or 48, and remained a consistent member until close of life. Her weary and worn out body sleeps in the grave, and her ransomed spirit we trust has entered upon "the rest that remaineth for the people of God". She leaves a large circle of relatives, many of who reside in Kentucky, others in the far west. To one and all her death is keenly felt and deeply regretted by all who knew her.
The funeral services were conducted from the residence, the Rev S N Taggart presiding. The attendance was large, notwithstanding the severity of the weather. The remains were deposited in the family burying grounds at Locust Grove
