Author. Born in Bisbee, Arizona, he is considered by many as the "Dean of American Science Fiction". In the 1930s, he began a series of space operas, the "Legion of Space" tales. Later, he published in "Unknown Magazine" the first version of "Darker Than You Think" (1948) and "The Humanoids." With Frederik Pohl, he wrote the successful "Starchild" trilogy (1964 to 69). His many works also include "The Moon Children," "The Stonehenge Gate," "Manseed," "Terraforming Earth," "The Ultimate Earth." In his long career, he was awarded with the Nebula Grand Master Award in 1975, the World Fantasy Life Achievement Award in 1994, induction into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 1996, and Grandmaster of the World Horror Convention in 2004. He published an autobiography titled "Wonder's Child." He died in Portales, New Mexico. (bio by: José L Bernabé Tronchoni)
