David Wesley "Sandy" Monroe, 73, of Ririe, passed away June 29, 2016, at The Gardens Assisted Living in Rigby. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Sandy was born November 30, 1942, in Rigby, Idaho, to John Wallace Monroe and Opal Scott Monroe. He grew up and attended schools in Ririe and graduated from Ririe High School. He also attended Eastern Idaho Vocational Technical School.
On July 12, 1961, he married Mickey Lee Byington in Ririe, Idaho. She was the love of his life. They were later sealed together for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on November 21, 1964. To this union were born six children, Jennafer Marilyn, Wesley, Jason Benjamin, Kirt, Barbara, and April. Sandy and Mickey made their home in Ririe, Idaho, where Sandy worked as a welder.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, basketball, frisbee golf, volleyball, and constructing things using wood, metal and leather. He built playground equipment and toys for children, grandchildren, family, and neighbors to enjoy. He always found ways to entertain and welcome everyone. All loved coming to his house. You could always hear him telling stories and playing jokes on everyone. He had a way of making others smile.
Many nights were spent around the table playing cards, reading to children and grandchildren, but each time the story changed. He loved playing games like old sow, horse shoes, and creating friendly competitions. He loved to BBQ and always welcomed everyone. His most famous phrase was, "Who wants a popsicle?"
David is survived by his son, Wes (Melanie) Monroe of Kearns, UT; son, Kirt (Cheri) Monroe of Roberts, ID; daughter, Barbara (Terry) Winters of Rigby, ID; daughter, April (Steve) Perry of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Gary (Delores) Monroe of Ririe, ID; brother, Wade Monroe of Rigby, ID; brother, Robert (Carolyn) Monroe of Shelley, ID; brother, Dean Monroe of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Brad (Annette) Eddins of Dubois, ID; 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
