IN MEMORIAM

On Sunday morning last, Mr. John Boyd, of this city was the recipient of a long distance telephone message from Nashville, Tenn., announcing the death of his niece, Mrs. Teresa Petty Boyd, which sad event occurred in the latter city on the night of Mar. 19. Mr. Boyd left at once for Nashville and reached there in time to attend the funeral obsequies.

The death of this most estimable young lady brings a pall of sorrow to many in this city who pleasantly remembered her as a visitor at the home of her Aunt Ida a few years ago. She endeared herself at once to all who had the pleasure of meeting her here, her charm of person and sunny temperament won the love and esteem of all who met her.

It is hard to realize that she is dead—dead in the maturity of perfect womanhood, like a rose which, opening its heart to the summer sun for all too brief a space, withers, droops and drops from the stem.

Death is at all times fraught with sorrow—but the death of a young wife, instinct with vitality and animate with the very joy of being, the light and the idol of a happy home, loving and loved, with all the joyous possibilities of life spanning like a radiant rainbow the vista which seemed to stretch before her—this, indeed, is sadness inexpressible.

Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Petty, of Nashville and the wife of Mr. Wm. M. Boyd. To the inmates of the home overshadowed by the gloom of her departure, we offer sympathy and heartfelt condolences. The ties of love cannot be severed without sorrows, but a merciful Father, who knows our griefs, sends the balm of healing in time and restores and compensates for, in the home beyond, all that His love denies in this life. As her life was pure so her end was peace. She is not dead—she has only exchanged worlds and gone to heaven, where she awaits to welcome those she loved on earth.
