Virginia Lee Clements Carter, 79, of Sweetwater died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, in her residence.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, in the McCoy Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Howell Martin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
Mrs. Carter was born on Oct. 28, 1926, in Sagerton. She married Ellis M. Carter Jr. on June 25, 1948, in Snyder. Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Rule High School in 1943.
She attended Draughn's Business College and worked for the telephone company in both Sweetwater and Snyder. Mrs. Carter was the credit manager for Sears for eight years, and was the secretary for the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce for two years. She was the office manager for Dr. Jerry Smola when he opened his office on July 20, 1976, working for 15 years and retiring in January 1991.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Mamie D. Crane chapter #1018, and served as worthy matron twice and held various grand appointments of the Christian and charitable organization. Mrs. Carter organized several Brownie and Girl Scout troops.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Wiley and her husband, Nate, of San Angelo, and Carolyn Moschetto and her husband, Jim, of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Shawn Wiley, Melissa Barton, Mike Moschetto and Jennifer Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Megan Farris, Justin Barton, Breanna Wiley, Treva Cummins, Luke Moschetto, Marissa Moschetto, Grace Johnson and Logan Johnson; one brother, Walter Clements Jr. of Roscoe; three sisters, Helen Kinerd of Abilene, Ruby Dressler of Iowa Park, and Joann Priest of Eastland; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Margaret and Amy Vega, Mary, Weldon and Lisa Kirk, and Dorothy Stroman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis M. Carter Jr., on Feb. 2, 1993; twin daughters, Judy and Julia Carter; and her parents, Walter and Minnie Clements Sr.
