SWEETWATER - Lawrence E. "Joe" Boyd, 88, died Thursday at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cate-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Fluitt officiating. Burial will be in the Coffee Cemetery. He was born in Nolan County. He was a rancher and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Boyd of Sweetwater, and several nieces and nephews.

Family Note: Uncle Joe chose his nickname with his brother Elmer when they were very young boys. One day he said, "I'll be Joe and you be Bill" and from that day forward, Lawrence became Joe and Elmer became Bill. Only the family knew how it began.

Married Bernice Hubbard on March 19, 1938 in Scurry County, Texas.

He was a beloved Uncle and true cowboy, and his word and handshake were his bond.
